How to Solve the Spartan Mower Problems

If you have owned your mower for a long time and have never had any issues with it, congratulations. You are the exception, not the rule. If you are experiencing problems with your mower, you are not alone.

The mower is an excellent machine; however, as with all machines there can be issues that can arise. Many times these issues are minor and easily fixed. Other times they can be major and require parts or service. It just depends on what the problem is.

Spartan mowers are well built, reliable, and quite easy to maintain. But it isn’t free from problems. Some of them are fuel and air gauge, deck noise, low power, starting issues, and uneven cut.

Whether you have a John Deere mower, a Spartan lawn mower, or an Exmark lawn mower, the day will come when you will encounter a mower problem.

Some problems are easy to fix yourself and others require a special trip to the hardware store or lawnmower shop. The following is a list of common problems I’ve run into with Spartan lawn mowers.

Common Problems in Spartan Lawn Mowers

Sometimes when you turn on your lawn mower, the engine may not start right away or it may cut off in mid-mow. This could be a problem with the spark plug or the recoil starter, so check them to make sure they’re working properly.

If they are and the lawn mower still won’t start, you should check the fuel line to make sure there’s gas in the carburetor. If you’re sure that there is gas in the mower but it’s still not starting, it could be that the carburetor needs to be cleaned

You don’t want to rush things and try to start your lawn mower too many times in a row because you could overheat it and damage the engine.

Uneven Cuttings

If you’re getting unevenly cut grass, the first thing to do is to check the air pressure in the tires. This will make sure that your mower rolls evenly and can get to every spot of your lawn.

Also, make sure that you’re using the right blade height for your lawn. You can also adjust the blade height on a Spartan mower. The most common reasons for uneven cut is either due to dull blades or improper tire pressure.

The solution for both problems is easy and can be done by yourself. To fix the uneven cut, you have to fix the deck height and sharpen the blades. If you are using a tire inflator then set the pressure between 10 to 14 psi.

Starting Problem

Starting problems in Spartan lawn mowers is a common issue that can be attributed to several reasons. You should always check the fuel, spark plug and the choke position. In this case, the lawn mower turns over but not starts.

In some instances, you might need to change the battery if it is bad. However, there are instances when you have to look into more complex issues such as the wiring problem or a bad engine control panel.

Check the fuel level in the tank and make sure that it is full. If it is not, put some fuel in it and try to start the unit again. If it doesn’t work, check if the gas cap is closed properly or not.

Now let’s see if the spark plug is alright or not. The first thing that you need to do is, take off the spark plug wire from the spark plug base and check if there is any damage in it or not, if you find any damage then replace it with a new one.

Now check if there is any debris inside the air filter of your mower. If it is too dirty, then clean it or replace it if needed.

Generating Unwanted Noises

Spartan mower reviews have a common complaint that the mower sometimes makes too much noise. It is not only embarrassing to use a noisy lawn mower, but it can also be dangerous if the user is doing chores in an area where there are people.

If you hear strange noises coming from your mower, make sure you stop immediately and check to see that everything is in working order. The noise could be coming from the blade.

If this is the case, you should get your blade checked and tightened to the correct level. The bearings of the blades might have worn out or they could be loose and need tightening.

You may want to consider replacing them with new ones if they are damaged beyond repair. Unwanted noises are not always a sign of serious problems. It can just be loose nuts or bolts that need tightening.

Fuel Gauge and Air Gauge Problems

But if you’ve checked for loose parts and everything still seems to be in place, it could be time to call in the professionals. The fuel gauge and air gauge problems in Spartan lawn mowers, is something that you may be experiencing in your machine too.

As you might be knowing, the fuel gauge will not work properly if there is a problem with its components. If your fuel gauge and air gauge are not working properly, then it can cause a lot of trouble for you.

You may get to know that your fuel tank is full but the mower still goes off saying that it needs more fuel. This will make you stop cutting.

Tires are usually the main concern in a lawn mower. You need to make sure the tires are in good condition for the machine to run smoothly. If there is any damage to the tires, you must replace it immediately.
